Birthday celebration no 2!

Today it's monday again and my lovely birthday weekend is up (though I will be celebrating next weekend with Robert when I visit him in dublin, so I guess it's not really the end lol) I did though have a little celebration with my family on sunday before I had to hurry back to Örebro again.

We ate cake from the bakery Thelins, it's a pretty famous bakery around here with delicious cakes! I like the ones with fruits on top  because they're delicious (duh!) and because they don't have any whipped cream on. I love whipped cream, but my stomach gets mad at me if I eat whipped cream. No I'm not lactose intolerant, in fact I can eat unwhipped cream, but as soon as it's whipped cream my stomach gets mad at me. Guess I'm allergic to the added whipped air lol!

I also got two presents <3 First one was a new camera for the trip. A very good digital camera ( a travel zoom to be exact). I wrote about it before here.

And a joby gorilla pod for my camera :) It can help stabilize the camera on pretty much any surface, here it is grabbing my mirror cabinet.

I have not tried the camera all too much today since the weather has been reeeally boring - it's just been cloudy and rainy all day. Not really good photoweather to try out your new camera. But it works great in dark environments like my poorly lit room lol! It has a great flash!

On the other hand, since it was great indoor reading weather I've read half the Water witch book I bought a while back. It is so good! It's really hard to put down! So i'm actually just going to eat a bit then indulge in my addicting book again haha!

A great app for writers

As you all know i want to be an author, and i recently discovered this awesome writing app that helps you structure your work - no more mess!

It also let's you synch your work with dropbox for easy access anytime and anywhere! It's just what i've been looking for!

The app is called "a novel idea" and is every writers dream! It also has a super-inspiring logo that really makes you want to write so what's not to like?

I Love it!

Go get it all of you writers out there, it's worth every penny!

A morning of dreams

I squealed out of joy and turned to Robert who walked behind a little less excitedly.
"Look, look! It's sushi!" I screamed excitedly back at him. I took his hand and dragged him to the small sushi shop in the middle of the busy marketplace. We were on our backpacking trip, somewhere in south east asia, and we had just found a big japanese style market with all japanese food, clothes and groceries. For some reason this japanese marketplace seemed to be the highlight of our journey, even though we had seen all sorts of remarkable things. It wasn't that south east asia was bad, in fact it had been great, it was just that seeing a part of my beloved japan and hearing the people there eat, speak and breath japanese just made me feel like i was back there - in my favourite country.

Robert wasn't as happy about it - just like when we arrived at the airport when we were going to japan he explained that he couldn't be as excited as me as I was so overwhelmingly happy that he couldn't match it. Yet, he let me roam about the market and let me drag him around by the hand while I was squealing and jumping like a little child.

We went into the sushi stall and where greeted by a silent sushi chef and a big boned lady who looked european, yet she greeted us with flawless japanese and showed us to the counter in front of the dead silent sushi chef. We ordered sushi and I talked with the lady and soon realized that she was from sweden but had moved here a long time ago when she married the ever so silent sushi chef. Robert interupted our chatting in japanese to inflict that if she was indeed swedish it would be easier for us all if we spoke in swedish instead so I didn't have to translate inbetween to him.

After eating our sushi we kept looking around the market place and found beautiful clothing, charming people and finally at the end of it a big party with nagashi soumen.

Nagashi soumen is a way of eating soumen noodles in the summer in japan that involves soumen noodles that float by you on a bamboo food slide that you are supposed to catch with your chopsticks and then dip in a dipping sauce before eating. I've always wanted to try it, but when we were in japan we unfortunately never tried it so when I saw the big nagashi soumen party at the end of the market I gasped and once again dragged robert there while explaining the procedure.

"You know I don't like cold noodles" robert said when I explained the noodles are cold and are sliding down the bamboo slide with the help of cold water. I knew, after all when we were in japan he accidentally ordered a bowl of cold noodles before learning the katakana for cold so we could avoid it in the future. I didn't find it as appalling as robert, but none of us liked it and we ended up sharing my warm bowl of noodles that time. But it was nagashi soumen, even if I wasn't so fond of the cold noodles we had in japan, this was another thing. It might be better tasting than the cold noodle bowl we tried before, there was no way to know but to try. It looked like fun to try and catch the noodles and I couldn't stop jumping around and smiling. I wanted to try it so bad and even if robert wasn't  inclined to try I was, so I let go of his hand and ran to get a pair of chopsticks. They were big, almost a little heavy compared to the chopsticks I knew - somehow more solid.

The water pearled as it slid down the bamboo slide and I could feel my heart pumping in my chest as I pulled up my sleeve and reached for the noodles. I missed once, the noodles sliding away from my chopsticks like snakes, before I caught some, dipped in the sauce and held it in front of my mouth. Finally, I was going to taste nagashi soumen for the first time. I opened my mouth and dropped the noodles onto my tongue...

As I opened my eyes I was back home in my bed, in sweden. Apart from my beating heart there was nothing left of my little journey in the land of dreams and I ventured out of bed to roll up the black out curtains to let the morning light in. I was well rested and had a good dream that made me miss japan and long for the warm summer that will let me visit south east asia for almost three months. I smiled.

But I still have to wait a while before I can taste nagashi soumen.

In a world of creatures and magic

There's this fairly new magazine here in sweden called "skriva" (eng: write) that is about writing books and everything around it. It's written for people like me who love to write and aims to become an author and it's filled with ideas, tips and inspiration.

Ever since my dad suddenly gave me a copy i've been reading it. It's like a big inspiration boost every time, so i think i'm going to subscribe to it - it's cheaper after all and i always buy it anyway.
In fact i just read the newest one and suddenly i found the hammer needed to smash a wall that's been blocking me in one of my stories.

So right now i'm dreaming myself away into the world i've created - weaving more and more details into it.

New paranormal romance novels

So today i met up with sarah and emi in old town and we went to one of our favourite stores - the science fiction bookstore (Science fiction bokhandeln).
Contrary to the name it's not only science fiction books that you can find there. The booksstore is two stories and contain swedish and english books in all genres - roleplay books, figurines, manga, board games, card games and everything else nerdy.

It's a great bookstore that has a big selection of one of my favourite genres - paranormal romance. (It's what it sounds like - romance novels with paranormal beings involved. The famous twilight series is of course one example, but the genre is so much bigger than that - and is not only about glittering vampires. For example it can involve demons(for example demon lords or incubi), ghosts, wherewolves, witches/warlocks, faeries, elves, dwarfes.... And so on and so on!! The list is long - pretty much any creature you can imagine probably has a love story out there.

Anyway, i'm almost done with the last book of the fifty shades triology and then i need some new books and being in my favourite bookstore i was tempted and ended up buying two books (i wanted a third one - but it was temporarily out of stock so i will order it online later)

I bought the second book in the faerwick chronicles called water witch (the first one was called incubus and i really recommend it! It was deliciously sexy and had a thrilling plot.) and the first book in a (for me) new series called "swoon".

I have high hopes for both of them and hope i will have time to read more - especially as sping is coming - there's nothing cozier than sitting outside in the sun and reading a great book. <3 data-blogger-escaped-br="">

Project S

I'm on the train back to örebro now.

I should probably be studying a bit for tomorrows seminar, but i'm not keen on it at the moment, so instead i'm writing. I've been wanting to the entire month, yet i haven't had any time to. So now, i am, because i've gotten some really great ideas that solves a problem in the plotline of one of my projects (let's call it project S) during this time and i just have to write it down, try it out, turn and twist it and get even more inspiration.

Inspiration

Whenever I arrive at Stockholm central, I always walk by a Pocket shop book store. I love that store, every time I go by it reminds me of my dream, it reminds me of what I'm striving for - it reminds me of the future ahead.

I see all these people enjoying the books and picking out what they want to read. I see them choosing a book after carefully flipping through and reading the synopsis on the back. I see the excitement in their eyes as they think of what the book might entail, and how it may enrich their lives. I see them buying the book, feeling happy with their buy and leaving the store. I walk into the store and do the same thing, sometimes I just admire the books and flip through them without buying, and sometimes I buy one.

No matter what I do in that store, and no matter how many times I've seen the same thing that month I always walk to the back of the store. There, in the corner is another dream, another ambition just staring me in the face. The "Top Ten" wall, the top ten most popular books.

Someday, MY book is going to be flipped through, bought and read. Someday MY book is going to be enjoyed by all those people. Someday, MY book will up on that "Top Ten" wall. Those are my dreams and my goals.

And every time I walk by that store, I am reminded of them and feel a new surge of inspiration, excitement and energy flowing through me.

That is why I  love that store - it's paradise.

Books, books, and more litterature

It's a new semester this week. And usually i buy books for the whole semester all at once, but this time, the semester is starting with a course with a crap load of books.

Yes, that's right, six books just for the first course costing around 1200kr! (about 175usd and 131 eur) There's still the books for the other three courses this term too!
So, i salvaged the situation slightly by buying the books second hand for 800kr instead (about 117usd and 88eur).
It was actually a really good idea, the books are in really good shape and it was fast and easy to get a hold of them all. Don't know why i haven't done it before.

Now i just need to read all these books....

On my way

One positive thing with being sick is that i sleep - and inevitably dream - a lot. Now, most of my dreams are weird beyond belief and pretty useless once i wake up, but suprisingly often what i dream about is a great idea - or sparks a great idea - for a book. I an actually say that most of my ideas for books stem from an idea i had in a dream.



And since i dreamt a lot i got two new ideas for books. One paranormal romance thingy, and one sci-fi thingy :)

So now, while going back to stockholm still half feverish - i'm writing them down for later use.

Now if i wasn't so out of it cause i'm sick i might actually get something done other than small pointers for myself ;)

Writing on the road

I'm right now at the central, waiting for my train back to örebro. It will be almost three hours before i arrive, so i take that time to read a book, or to write a book.
As i've said before i'm on the road a lot and the only thing i always have with me is my phone. So i wanted an app that i could use to write on the go, as well as be able to reach that content with my computer when needed. What i found was my writing spot. It's an app that lets you write on the go as well as synch to an online server so you can reach it on the computer as well :)




It's not super ideal, i wish i could somehow have it all in a word document instead, but well this is the only one i've found that lets you keep on writing even when you don't have a network and synch your progress later when you do have access. But you can colorcode your different works and sort them for easy access, It is good and it works well for me <3 data-blogger-escaped-br="">So now i'm gonna continue writing till i get back to örebro :)
