Travel Diary - Crossing into Laos

We departed from Chiang Rai early in the morning and set out with the local bus towards Chiang Khong where we were to cross the border. The bus was packed and we only got room furthest back in the bus admist everyones' travelpacks. The seats weren't that big so Robert easily took up 2 seats by himself.

The weird buslady.

On the bus we encountered three Americans, and one of them was really chatty so we spent the reminder of the busride talking about nothing and everything.

When we finally got of the bus the ferrie to take us over the border was nowhere in sight, and a Tuk-tuk driver told us that it would take over 30 mins of walking to get there. We got the direction from him (walk straight ahead) and so we walked. 10 minutes later we found the border-crossing so we stamped out of Thailand and crossed to Laos on a small boat. It was crazy hot and Syrena even started to melt a little :p

When over on Laos-side we walked around town untill we found a lovely little inn with a really nice view overlooking the Mekong river.

We all then went out for dinner and got some pretty good local food, although it was hard to come by given that almost everywhere they served all american food and baguettes. We got a bit frustrated to say the least...

After the dinner it was time to go to bed. A long day on the river awaited and we longed for spectacular sceneries.
