Travel diary - Exploring Luang Prabang

Our first whole day in Luang Prabang we decided to get to know the town.

First we ate some local Lao cuisine - noodle soup with mince meat and a big plate of vegetables with spicy sauce.

After the hearty brunch we checked out a little temple/museum. We were going to visit the local museum as well but as it was pretty expensive we decided to spend our money elsewhere.

After the temple/museum we looked at the hill behind us that had a temple on top and supposedly a very good view over the city. We decided to climb up the gazillon steps to the top and look around.

A great view wasn't all there was to it though. On the way down we noticed several tiny temples, statues and look out points. In the end the way down turned out to be longer than the way up.

The great pushing-you-down-the-stairs buddha ;)

Cave-man buddha.

When we got back down again we saw a little market with a lot of different crafts, jewelries, fabrics and art. In the end we bought a blue shawl and two beautiful hair pins for Wayu. (Will show when we get home) Unfortunately Robert didn't find anything he wanted that he could safely bring on the rest of the journey.

When we were done at the market we were getting hungry again and decided to walk towards the river. We had heard that the food would be cheaper there but it took us quite a while to find one that was.

Then we stumbled upon this sign that said "We got chea pest food and nice staff. What more you want!? We not even mentioning the great view". Yes, with the funny spelling and all. It was so so funny and the food was cheap so we went inside and ordered two curries (one green and one red).

The restaurant turned out to be a gold mine - not only did they have cheap prices and a funny sign, the staff and the view of the river was nice and most importantly the food was delicious in generous portions.

As the skies turned dark we sat there and enjoyed the view and the food before turning in after a long day.
